BACKBEAT BEATLES
come alive in Cheltenham
On November 14th 1997 I was back at Cheltenham's Town Hall, this time for the Backbeat Beatles which was led by CHRIS O'NEILL, the person who played GEORGE HARRISON in the film BackBeat. The outfits they wore was the all black outfit of the Hamburg years, as in the Backbeat film.
Before I went to see them I thought they would perform the songs from that part of The Beatles career, but they didn't, they performed songs from their whole career.
Songs performed in the concert included TWIST AND SHOUT, GET BACK, LET IT BE, HELP, SHE LOVES YOU, and I SAW HER STANDING THERE.
The line-up of the BACKBEAT BEATLES was:-
During the show Dave Seal and I both thought that the drummer looked more like the drummer in the Rutles rather than RINGO.
They were better than The Cavern Beatles but again not as good as the ones at the Everyman.
After the show I spoke to CHRIS O'NEILL who told me the actors did not perform any of the songs in the film.
